It is good you are giving a secondary character a back story. That helps build your characters little mini verse.
Ive been needing to give her a backstory so I was like why not but I still need to design her parents... .-.
Maybe her parents where magic users as well?

I was thinking her parents wheren't magic but her grandmother was so Alex got a interest of it from her. But later on when the parents figured out Alex started using magic they where disapproved about it and pretty much abandoned her or whatever..Somethin like that .3.
